BYGG REC
Bygg Rec was a collaboration between Local A. artists Jenny Berntsson and Felice Hapetzeder and Tensta Konsthall. Two art projects of different nature, method and technology created a base for the project in co-operation with the young people. The workshop included sessions on contemporary art and teaching in basic training in filmmaking techniques.
The project worked with young people who participated in art production and simultaneously learned how to work with moving images in workshop form. The participants had opportunity to develop an understanding of contemporary art and were given voice to interpret their reality by learning how to make a simple storyboard, script, interview techniques and dramatize moving images.
The workshop's purpose was to help young people build self-esteem, sense of place, developing skills and social interaction beyond the limits of diversity.
The result of Bygg Rec, the films of the participants and documentation will be included in the exhibition part of Record Construct Istanbul.

Bygg Rec var ett samarbete mellan Local A. konstnärerna Jenny berntsson och Felice Hapetzeder och Tensta Konsthall. Två konstprojekt av olika karaktär, metod och teknik skapade tillsammans med ungdomar, en bas för projektet. Workshopen innehöll möten med samtidskonst och undervisning i grundläggande praktik i filmskapande.
Projektet arbetade med ungdomar som deltog i konstproduktionen och samtidigt lärde sig att arbeta med rörliga bilder i workshopform. Ungdomarna fick möjlighet att utveckla en förståelse av samtida konst och gavs - genom att lära sig hur man gör en enkel storyboard, manus, intervjuteknik och dramatisera rörliga bilder - röst att tolka sin verklighet.
Workshopens syfte var att bidra till att bygga ungdomarnas självförtroende, känsla för platsen, utveckla färdigheter och socialt samspel utöver gränserna för olikheterna.
Resutlatet från Bygg Rec kommer vara inkluderat i utställningarna i Record Construct Istanbul.

RECORD CONSTRUCT
Record Construct is a collaboration between Local A. and Istanbul 2010 Cultural Capital of Europe. Two developing art works by Jenny Berntsson and Felice Hapetzeder together with youths living in Istanbul constitute the base for the project.
The workshop will address attitudes towards environmental issues and housing conditions triggered by Igloo Construction II. The youths are provided possibility to develop an understanding of contemporary art and given a set of tools for communication: They will learn how to make a simple story board, script and dramatise moving images. They experience the difference between being the one performing an interview and being the interviewee. They are free to shape their own ideal story in moving images and encouraged to tell a story from their lives. In the finalized artwork by Hapetzeder interviews will be intertwined with the young peoples own dramatized stories produced under tutelage of the workshop. This material will be shown in interplay with the architectural sculpture of Igloo Construction II.
Common to works by the artists is a commitment to issues relating to time and place. Hapetzeders’ continued project Limits of forgiveness is about how events, which you have not even experienced yourself, still affect you through parents or other influences during your growth. Berntssons’ Igloo Construction II is about the process of construction and decay, in the city as in nature. Where Jenny Berntssons’ Igloo Construction II works physically with the participants to build something tangible, Felice Hapetzeders’ Limits of forgiveness acts into the past and present on a mental level, engaging the participants to share their story in his video work. The maps, which are delineated by the works are complementary and cross-fertilize.
The artists believe that the human background and lived experience combined create the conditions for the mental climate of a place. The mental environment is also something, which can be described as site specific. The non-physical aspect of a place is as important as the physically built and planned. We want Record Construct to be a link between these physical and metaphysical parts of the city.
The project will be held at ECoC studios and exhibited in the two cultural centres of the Istanbul suburbs Küçükçekmece and Kartal.

Workshopen kommer att behandla attityder till miljöfrågor och bostadsförhållanden med utgångspunkt i Jenny Berntssons skulptur Igloo Construction II. Ungdomarna ges möjlighet att utveckla en förståelse för samtida konst och få en uppsättning verktyg för kommunikation. De får lära sig att göra en enkel storyboard, manus och dramatisera rörliga bilder, uppleva skillnaden mellan att vara den som utför en intervju och att vara den som blir intervjuad. De är fria att forma sina egna historier i rörliga bilder genom att berätta en historia med verklighetsbakgrund från sitt liv. I Hapetzeders färdigställda konstverk kommer intervjuer att flätas samman med ungdomars egna dramatiserade berättelser som producerats under workshopen. Detta material kommer att visas i samspel med den arkitektoniska skulpturen Igloo Construction II.
Gemensamt för konstnärernas verk är ett engagemang för frågor som rör tid och plats. Hapetzeders fortsatta projektet Limits of forgiveness handlar om hur händelser, som vi inte ens upplevt själva, fortfarande påverkar oss genom föräldrar eller andra influenser under vår uppväxt. Berntssons Igloo Construction II handlar om uppbyggnad och förfall, i staden som i naturen. Gemensamt för verken är engagemanget för frågor som rör tid och plats. Där Igloo Construction II arbetar fysiskt med deltagarna, verkar Limits of forgiveness bakåt och in i samtiden på ett mentalt plan. Kartorna som framträder genom arbetsmetoderna kompletterar och korsbefruktar varandra.
Konstnärerna tror på att människors bakgrund och levda erfarenheten tillsammans skapar förutsättningarna för det mentala klimatet på en plats. Den själsliga miljön är också något som kan beskrivas som platsspecifik. Den icke-fysiska aspekten av en plats är lika viktig som den fysiskt byggda och planerade. Vi vill med Record Construct förstärka en koppling mellan dessa fysiska och metafysiska delar av staden.
Verken kommer att ställas ut på kulturhusen i de två Istanbulförorterna Küçükçekmece och Kartal.
